On McKinney Music, “the best independent music magazine in the UK“, Patrick Girondi & The Orphan’s Dream Band have delivered “Orphan’s Final Chapter.” This is the seventh of Girondi’s “Orphan” albums, all of which are connected to his 30-year struggle to find a cure for Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease.
Patrick Girondi & The Orphan’s Dream Band
“Orphan” is a term utilized for sicknesses that are not productive for legislatures to research and track down therapies for, and subsequently are left seriously underfunded. San Rocco Therapeutics (SRT) was founded by an Italian-American singer-songwriter, author, and native of Chicago’s South Side, Gironde. In 1993, the son of Gironde was diagnosed with Thalassemia, a cousin of Sickle Cell Disease. In 2004, the band Orphan’s Dream released their first CD, “Orphan’s Soul.”
“Orphan’s Final Chapter”
The cover of this album tells a different story, even though its name suggests it is their last. In a Catholic funeral setting, Girondi is depicted lying in a coffin with political and religious figures. Gironde is winking an eye despite being in a casket. The paradoxical message suggests that Girondi has not yet completed his work. All of this is to imitate his legal battle with Big Pharma to defend SRT’s scientific achievements thus far. Megan Euker, who is also the Project Manager for San Rocco Therapeutics and Girondi’s agent, created the original painting that serves as the basis for the cover art.
SRT has been compelled to prosecute Big Pharma for patent infringement of fraudulent intellectual property. Most of the time, Big Pharma assumes that its power and wealth will eliminate the underdog. Girondi fights even after they believe they have exhausted him.
Girondi’s five-year pharmaceutical court battle came to an end just days before the release of his fifth album, “Orphan’s Return.” The verdict has enabled Girondi to resume his work to cure rare diseases, as the album’s title suggested.
Live Performances And More
Patrick Girondi & The Orphan’s Dream have performed all over the world with approximately 100 other musicians, including international stars. In January, they performed in New York City.
Both the Italian film Focaccia Blues, which won an Academy Award, and Ed Asner’s Unscripted, which was directed by Brian Connors, featured music by Girondi. The Best of Los Angeles Award Community named Girondi one of the 100 Most Fascinating People in Los Angeles in 2022.
All of Girondi’s efforts are directed toward paving the way for a safe and readily available treatment for Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease.
