On McKinney Music, “the best independent music magazine in the UK“, “Skeleton Psalms”, the most recent album from popular Christian rock band Disciple leads with #1 single, “The Executioner”.
Skeleton Psalms, the most recent studio album by acclaimed rock band Disciple, is an opus of life and death featuring the singles “The Executioner” and “Promise to Live.” The album is available on all major streaming services from BEC Recordings/Tooth & Nail at https://disciple.ffm.to/skeletonpsalms.
The three parts of Disciple’s Skeleton Psalms tell the story of humanity: mercy, brokenness, and victory in the end.
Lead Singer Kevin Young
Lead singer and band founder Kevin Young reflected about how every single song is intertwined and connected with the others. They are all autobiographical in some way, and they all deal with similar themes. It’s almost in three chapters: God’s unconditional love, human depravity, and victory.
The home-made Skeleton Psalms was produced by guitarist Josiah Prince at his studio The Ranch, composed by Kevin Young, guitarist Andrew Stanton and Josiah Prince, with Joey West on drums, and backing vocals by Marco Pera. Mark “Traa” Daniels (P.O.D.) provided additional instrumentation support by playing bass. To complete the creative team, the band hired mix engineer Nick Rad (Skillet), mastering engineer Sam Moses (Tenth Avenue North), and Lester Estelle (Pillar, Kelly Clarkson) for drum recording.
Skeleton Psalms was preceded by three songs, and boasts the hauntingly instinctive title track “Skeleton Psalm”, “Restoring Reasons”, a poignant triumph, the viciously ripping “20 20 Blind”, and the overwhelming sympathy of “For the Life of Me”. Sonically, the record paints from a range shaded with all of the tracks in the band’s acclaimed thirty-year vocation. Simultaneously, the soundscape that at last comes to fruition is the result of today’s lineup’s ten years as an innovative unit.
Producer Josiah Prince
Josiah Prince, guitarist and producer, said that the album is the result of the chemistry of the four band members having played so many shows together. They have an instinct now for how the four of them would play a song while performing it. As a result, that informs the songs they write. This album most closely resembles Disciple’s stage energy, in Josiah’s opinion.
SkeleVision, a special live-streamed album release show (with upgrades for exclusive merchandise), was held on April 28 to commemorate Skeleton Psalms’ release.
