A Life Well Lived
With his new single, A Life Well Lived, Daryl Mosley, a singer and songwriter who has won awards, imparts wisdom. The title track and the first release of Mosley’s forthcoming album, which will be released later this year on Pinecastle Records, were featured on Roughstock earlier this week and premiered on Bluegrass Today. Fans can order the single right now right HERE. The single is available to radio stations through Airplay Direct.
“I was inspired by a meme of all things,” said Daryl of this Rick Lang co-written track. “It was an old man, slicing an apple with a pocket knife and eating it right off the blade … I’d seen my grandpa do that a million times.”
Lang says that the two of them laughed about the picture, then got into a deep conversation about all the life lessons their parents had taught them, which led to the creation of a song. Lang concluded that the message of A Life Well Lived is, “to be kinder, be grateful for what we have, to set a good example for others, and to leave something good behind.”
The Mosley/Danny Roberts co-production is highlighted by Daryl’s warm tenor voice and the compact Bluegrass arrangement. Adam Haynes’ fine fiddle work, Mosley’s signature steady bass, and Tony Wray’s engaging guitar and banjo are all influenced by the flawless mandolin playing of five-time SPBGMA Mandolin Player of the Year and IBMA award winner Roberts. A powerful play features the angelic background vocals of the talented Jaelee Roberts (Sister Sadie).
As a singer and songwriter, Daryl has been successful for more than three decades. Daryl toured with the Bluegrass band The New Tradition throughout the 1990s as lead vocalist and bassist, earning him a reputation for his thoughtful lyrics, warm country sunshine voice, and flawless musicianship. Mosley joined the Osborne Brothers in 2001, where he performed until 2010. After that, he started the band The Farm Hands, which soon became one of the best Bluegrass bands.
With THE SECRET OF LIFE, Daryl made his solo debut in 2020 and began working with Pinecastle Records. The lead single, “A Few Years Ago,” spent six weeks at the top of the Contemporary Song Chart, and the album spent multiple weeks at the top of the Roots Music Report Contemporary Album Chart.
His album SMALL TOWN DREAMER debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard Albums Chart in 2021. “Transistor Radio,” the album’s lead single, was released in November. It went to number one on the Bluegrass Unlimited Chart, number five on the Bluegrass Today Chart, and received a lot of airplay on Sirius XM’s Bluegrass Junction. On the RMR’s Chart’s Best of Contemporary BG 2022 list, the single ranked 15th.
Following Daryl’s December 2022 release of “An Old Fashioned Christmas,” which he also co-wrote with Lang, a frequent collaborator and friend, is his most recent single, “A Life Well Lived.” Mosley has been recognized as Songwriter of the Year twice and has won three Song of the Year awards (SPBGMA) for his work on eight #1 songs. Many artists have recorded Mosley’s songs, including Lynn Anderson, Bobby Osborne, Josh Williams, the Booth Brothers, and Carolina Blue. He lives in Waverly, Tennessee, and gives more than 140 shows every year.
